Reviewing Translations

Reviewing is an important step in the translation process. It ensures that each translation is error-free and meets your quality standards. Once a string in Transifex has been marked as reviewed, it can't be edited by Translators.

In this article you will find:

Note

Only Admins, Project Maintainers, Language Coordinators, and Reviewers can review strings and edit strings that are reviewed.

Reviewing translations

To review a string:

  • Enter the Editor and find the strings you want to review. To see just the unreviewed strings, click the Unreviewed button in the header next to the search box.

  • From the strings list on the left, click on the string you want to mark as reviewed

  • In the translation box, hit Review

In the strings list, reviewed strings are marked by a checkmark. In case you have mistakenly reviewed a string, click the Unreview button. This action is only available to the person who did the initial review.

Reviewing multiple strings at a time

Instead of reviewing strings one by one, you can use the batch edit function to mark multiple strings as reviewed:

  • Enter the Editor and find the strings you want to review. To see just the unreviewed strings, click the Unreviewed button in the header next to the search box.

  • Use the checkboxes next to each string to select the strings you want to mark as reviewed. To select all the strings in the list, click the checkbox next to the search box.editor-stringlist.png#asset:592

  • Once you've selected a set of strings, hit the Review button in the right panel. Your selected strings will be marked as reviewed.

Any reviewer can modify an already reviewed string. After applying the changes and saving the updated translation text, the string remains to the reviewed status with no requirement for review again.

Unreviewing strings

By unreviewing a string you mark it as translated, which is the previous state of the string. This means that translators can edit it and reviewers can review it again.

Unreview action on a string is available to administrators and the reviewer who reviewed that string.

If you are a reviewer or an admin that want to unreview a string that you accidentally marked as reviewed:

  • Select the string you have reviewed from the list

  • If you can revoke your review, you will see an "Unreview" button which you can click.

If you are a reviewer that want to revoke a review on a string you don't have that option. Please consider, either editing the string to correct it, adding a suggestion or adding an issue with more details about your concerns.

If you are an administrator that wants to unreview a string or set of strings:

  • Select the strings you want to unreview using the checkboxes on the string list

  • From the mass actions menu that will appear on the right side of the editor, choose Unreview. This will turn all selected strings to translated state.

You can filter out all reviewed strings by using the search filter "Reviewed" and then choosing yes.
